We are a state approved private school that incorporates a highly effective academic experience and quality education for all children. This private school goes from nursery to 12th grade providing a challenging academic environment since its establishment in 1982, consisting of the same school directors since then.
Colégio Atlântico with almost 1400 students is located in a working class neighborhood in Seixal, a short distance from the capital city, Lisboa.
We are a school where the students are provided with a rigorous curriculum, instruction, and assessment aligned with the State Standards while being immersed in the arts. Social and environmental awareness and active citizenship are the foundation stones of our educational project. In promoting social and environmental awareness in our students through a Problem Based Learning methodology (PBL), we believe we are providing them with skills and competences that will help them to become active individuals in the pursuit of a more tolerant, cooperative, respectful and environmentally conscious society. School administration supports the initiatives of teachers to participate in the Erasmus + projects. The school in the past has participated in 1 international Comenius project and participated in 5 ERASMUS+ projects since 2016. Our curriculum is based upon new technologies with specific subjects where students learn how to use them from both the user and the programmer’s point of view. We are a very tech-friendly school with our curriculum strongly based upon ICT. Our curriculum includes a subject where students develop ICT skills (TIC) and a subject dedicated to computing; We are a school that has a very strong approach to social and environmental awareness for that we have: A greenhouse with 500 square meters that is a real laboratory for our students make experiences and learn; Partnerships with environmental ONG as “Falmingo” and “Quercus” We participate in the national program “ecoescolas” and we received our green flag from them; We have a digital weather station and we share our data with some institutions and online. We are a school that has a very strong approach to social and environmental awareness. Thus, every year we encourage our students to reflect about social and environmental problems and then try to actively contribute to its solution.
